THE MOLLY PITCHER

Our American history is filled with great heroes and memorable battles as well.  However, women and children who fought for our independence from England have often been ignored.

One notable lady was Mary Hays.  Why? Because she risked her life carrying pails of water to the soldiers in the Battle of Monmouth.  Her legacy really unfolded when her husband, William, could not fire his cannon due to his sudden incapacity.

Molly Pitcher (Mary Hays) took over and began firing his cannon.  She was an exemplary portrait of bravery and valor.

What incredible patriotism this woman gave during the Revolutionary War!  The Molly Pitcher.

Pails of water.  That’s right.  For thirsting soldiers who carried out their loyal mission to bring liberty from the onerous and oppressive enemy who wanted to control us, tax us and keep us on our knees.

Thank God for the amazing women in this nation today who help assuage our ongoing hope to remain free and peaceful in the face of our evil aggressors.

By the way, Molly Pitcher (Mary Hays) was later recognized for her service by the state of Pennsylvania, receiving a pension. Her story is commemorated at her burial site in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and at the Monmouth battlefield.

***MAY OUR GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS THIS GREAT NATION OF FAITHFUL SOLDIERS AND CITIZENS WHO TRULY LOVE AND RESPECT THE FREEDOM WE SO THANKFULLY CHERISH.
